If Australia had it’s own royal family, it is only natural to assume that they would take up residence in our nations capital, the lovely Canberra. With its rich historic significance, iconic national monuments – our fictional royals and their refined pallets would fit right in! In between frequenting sophisticated cafes and appreciating the many art galleries (while intermittently tending to their royal duties), we imagine their royal dwelling would be none other than the regal Hyatt Hotel Canberra.

Nested in the stunning ‘Parliamentary Triangle’, the Park Hyatt Canberra is perfectly situated for a visit to the Parliament as well as the Australian War Memorial and National Gallery. The gorgeous architecture and historical significance of the buildings has us beaming with pride and patriotism.

With so many wineries in close proximity to the city, we hopped into our cars and ventured out further afield on a mission to discover the magic of Canberra’s cellar doors.

We popped into the Kyeena Vineyard as it is the home of Capital Wines – the quaint and charming charming cellar door brought us an incredible tasting experience while surrounded by the breathtaking hills of the valley.

Keeping in the theme of winery hopping, we headed to the stunning Mount Majura Vineyard – we chose a guided tour of the grounds and learned interesting facts about the red volcanic soil/ limestone deposits and how they work to create extremely unique wines.

After soaking up the knowledge like sponges, we decided to test out the wines ourselves (for research purposes of course). The verdict -delightful!

Life shouldn’t only be about wineries, it should be about wineries AND chocolate. With this motto in mind, we headed to Robyn Rowe Chocolates for a delicious taste of handcrafted goodies.

Hotel Hyatt Canberra

There is a plethora of chocolate flavours available- from ginger, peppermint, caramel, hazelnut praline, French vanilla and espresso to jasmine green tea, cherry port, Frangellico and Irish Cream varieties. The chocolates are so delicate and artfully crafted, it almost seems cruel to eat them (but we did, and it was glorious).

Come September and October, Canberra plays host to the Floriade, a globally acclaimed ‘Celebration of Spring’, offering a majestic display of more than a million blooming flowers alongside horticulture workshops, live musical entertainment and stunning florist – this free event is a ‘must see’ for any holiday goer. Hotel Hyatt Canberra

If you can’t make it to Canberra for Floriade, the amazing Cockington Green Gardens is an incredible place for a unique local experience- we enjoyed discovering the crafted miniature building nestled among beautifully landscaped gardens.

We can’t quite capture in words how exhilarating seaway rides are – these incredible pieces of innovative technology act as an extensions to your body they dutifully glide left/right/forward as your shift your weight and body direction. Since evolution has not (yet) granted us the ability to quickly sip around town with our own two feet, we are perfectly content with a Segway session from Seg Glide Ride anytime we head to Canberra!
