Grand Pacific Hotel and Apartments Lorne

We packed our car full of weekend getaway essentials and took to the road with our eyes set on destination, Grand Pacific Hotel and Apartments Lorne. As we zipped down the the Great Ocean Road, with pre-selected road-trip tunes building our excitement, the towns of Geelong, Torquay and Anglesea began to sequentially disappear in our rear view mirrors.

Couple a charming town shrouded in history with a gorgeous seaside location and you have the perfect base for a rejuvenating escape. In addition to Lorne’s extensive list of attractive offerings, the town itself is strategically positioned to explore the stunning wilderness and striking natural landscapes of the surrounding areas – be it coastal hot spots or inland gems.

Although the Victorian Surf Coast may bring to mind modern phenomenons like the annual Rip Curl Pro or helicopter rides over the Great Apostles, it is also incredibly rich in history.

Perched majestically on Lorne’s picturesque coast, the Grand Pacific Hotel & Apartments will allow you to step back through time. Built in 1875,  our group was stunned to learn that pre-road, it was originally accessed only by sea! Since its earliest days, the stunning classical building has since been marvelously resorted in order to offer fabulous accommodation and modern service while maintaining its original charming flair. Grand Pacific Hotel and Apartments Lorne

With it’s easy accessibility via the scenic Great Ocean Road, Lorne’s popularity had steadily increased and as a result,  The Grand Pacific expanded to include a cluster of gorgeous ocean- facing apartments. With the same stunning panoramic views, these one and two bedroom units are perfect for families who need a little extra space!

The Rooms

With the sun bouncing off the crystal waters of the ocean, the ultra-romantic Pacific King Room is extra shimmery during the daytime. This gorgeous space for two has a few touches of Parisian romance with the added glitz and glam of a panoramic ocean view.

The timeless elegance of the Hotel will quickly have you wanting to catch the sunset while luxuriating on one of the gorgeous wraparound verandas.

Our travelling band were offered the extra space afforded by a two bedroom apartment. Featured in a complex adjacent to the historic hotel, we were able to take advantage of a fully self-contained kitchen, spacious lounge room and the crowning jewel; our very own private ocean-view terrace.

Whether a guest in the historic hotel or the modern apartments, you will peacefully wake each morning to the brilliant blues of the Pacific Ocean

Seaside Dining

Our first port of call for delicious dining was the in-house Pacific Bistro Restaurant and Bar located . With a modern contemporary menu, there are dining options to please all pallets.

Grand Pacific Hotel and Apartments LorneIt seemed like a natural extension of the gorgeous sea-side location to fill up on lime and pepper calamari, seafood linguine and a generous shared seafood platter (we also ordered a side of chips for the teeniest bit of balance!)

Out and About

With delicious food temporarily ticked off our to-do list, we were ready for a relaxing stroll along Lorne’s charming main road. The buzzing cafe culture and talented baristas clearly have their eyes on Melbourne’s coveted crowning title of ‘coffee capital of Australia’- Melbournites, be warned!

There is also a delightful collection of quaint shops ranging from designer homewares, fabulous clothing and an amazing children’s toy.

A stroll along the famous Lorne Pier was our preferred method for balancing out the bustling shops and cafes of the main strip.  We walked past the shore and into the blue, casually smiling at the fishermen along the way. Gazing out into the horizon, there is no doubt in our mind what drew in the earliest settlers to this magical slice of the world.

Shades of Blue

In the summer, the beaches of Lorne’s coast are teeming with swimmers, surfers and sunbathers reveling in sunshine, fresh air and blue ocean.

Come winter, only a few brave surfers and their trusty wet suits make their way into the cooler waters however, this is personally our favourite time of the year to visit as the absence of huge crowds and travelling tour buses really offers you the chance to fully appreciate the stunning tranquil beauty of the coast.

Shades of Green

Dotted with waterfalls and lush greenery, the nearby Otway Rain Forest should be high up on everyone bucket-list! Become one with nature as you immerse yourself in the the giant fern trees, abundant plant-life and flowing creeks.

Only a quick 10 minute drive from the Grand Pacific Hotel are the stunning Erskine Falls – here we enjoyed a leisurely walk to the top of the falls where we were able to admire the 30 metres of cascading water.  The soothing sound of the fast flowing falls mixed in wonderfully with the clicks of our cameras as we feverishly tried to capture the moment.

With a generous amount of time spent exploring the rain forest, our private ocean-view terrace eventually beckoned and we made our way back to Lorne for a romantic glimpse of the fast-approaching sunset.

My husband and I spent three days at this exquisite Hotel and were most impressed with the friendly service, the beautiful King spa room with views to die for and the delicious gourmet food. It ranks right up there with the most memorable of our Hotel experiences and is a wonderful place from which to tour the Great Ocean Road (Grand Pacific Lorne)

I was fortunate enough to stay at this hotel recently and I mean fortunate. What a setting and on The Great Ocean Road as well. The views from the rooms are breathtaking and the hotel perfectly positioned for a stroll down to the town of Lorne and all it has to offer or along the pier to watch the antics of the local seal – not the fisherman’s friend! We stayed here only the one night and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel. Our room was large with a spectacular view and balcony and had a spa. There is a good path along the beach into the main shopping area where there are numerous cafes and restaurants. (Grand Pacific Lorne)
