The Resort

Serving as one of Western Australia’s finest accommodation establishments, the five-star Kimberley Sands provides luxurious lodgings and sublime service just a short stroll away from the spectacular shores of Broome’s famous Cable Beach.

The Kimberley Sands Resort  was awarded with three consecutive gold medals for ‘Best Luxury Accommodation’ in the Western Australian Tourism Awards in 2010, 2011 and 2012; and has also received a 2014 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

The impressive resort entails 72 lavish guestrooms and suites fanned around a stunning central maxima swimming pool, which became one of our favourite chill-out spots in an effort to combat the searing afternoon sun.

The Room

Our Shinju Deluxe Guest Room was a plush haven swathed in endearing tropical shades and adorned with chic modern furnishings.

Named after the Japanese term for ‘pearl’, each room showcases subtle hints of oriental flair and features convenient amenities including a gorgeous caesarstone ensuite bathroom, LCD TV with in-house movies and Foxtel, a relaxed sitting area, and either a courtyard or balcony with pool or garden views. The king-size bed was wickedly soft and provided restful nights that left us recharged to tackle action-packed days.

Aside from the breathtaking central pool, the Kimberley Sands Resort  boasts an engaging range of on-site guest facilities including a well-equipped fitness room, tour desk and gift shop.

Adding to the property’s calming Zen ambiance, guests are welcome to unwind amid the lush surrounds of blooming meditative gardens designed by Australia’s favourite celebrity landscaper, Jamie Durie. The world-class Kimberley Sands Resort  was another hit with our travelling troupe, offering a wide selection of soothing treatments from facials to massages and everything in between. The spa is equipped with couples’ and individual treatment rooms, Li’Tya Day Spa Dreaming products, two Vichy shower rooms and a sauna.

Each morning of our stay, we tucked into a delicious continental buffet breakfast featuring mouth-watering morsels such as fresh house-baked breads, delicious pastries, a selection of cereals, tropical fruits, juices, tea and coffee.

The resort’s award-winning on-site dining venues also dished up an appetising array of fresh, contemporary meals that were perfectly-cooked and flavour-packed.

Cable Beach is one of Broome’s main drawcards and with scenery like this, it’s no surprise. The 22 kilometre stretch of white sandy heaven lures travellers in search of beachside relaxation from across the globe.

If you’ve read about Broome in a glossy travel magazine or received a postcard from holidaying friends, chances are you’ve seen images of camels loping along the shores of Cable Beach. It’s an activity that has become so ingrained with Broome’s tourism industry that it’s considered as synonymous as the town’s storied pearling links.

Having saddled up for a morning ride with the team from Red Sun Camels, we can confirm that this is something you not only need to add to your bucket-list but tick it off as soon as possible. Our group had an absolute ball petting and riding our furry humpback chariots, and watching the sun slowly creep above the Indian Ocean while painting the clouds with licks of orange and gold is an unforgettable experience.

You simply can’t visit Broome without getting caught up in the romance of the town’s pearl-diving history, so we embarked on an amazing four-hour pearl farm expedition with Willie Creek Pearl Farm Tours. Our knowledgeable guides revealed the hidden secrets of the modern pearling trade and showed us how these rare and precious natural wonders are cultivated – recounting the journey from seabed to jewellery store window. With return coach transfers, morning tea and a leisurely boat cruise; our tour made for a fun day out.

We also caught the latest flick screening at the world’s oldest open-air garden cinema still in operation according to Guinness Book of World Records – the Sun Pictures theatre in Chinatown. The historic cinema dates back to 1916, and while movies were once viewed via 35mm projectors, the theatre now boasts the finest digital screening technology.

Broome’s scintillating weather is the perfect match for a cold glass of beer, and there’s no better place to sample the local brew than at Matso’s Broome Brewery. An extensive range of distinctly unique handcrafted beers and ciders will ensure Matso’s earns a place in your heart – we particularly loved the aptly named ‘Pearler’s Pale Ale’ and their Mango beer is a must-try!

Broome is a beautiful beach town of many delights and we’ll definitely be back to indulge in its rich history, scenic natural splendour and luxurious surrounds very soon!

Perfect Adults Retreat

Five out of five stars – Reviewed 20 August 2014

“This was my second stay at this hotel and it was just as enjoyable as the first. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The property has a lovely, peaceful feel about it. I have never seen any children around, so feel it is perfect for an adults ‘retreat’. The day spa is gorgeous.
There was a good choice at the buffet for breakfast and other meals/snacks during my stay were of an excellent standard. Service was good without being too obtrusive. GM of the property was always on hand assisting guests and accessible.”

Pearl in Broome’s Crown

Five out of five stars – Reviewed 15 August 2014

“This was a lovely place to stay. It had everything you would want. The restaurant was excellent and the tour manager was very helpful. A short walk to Cable Beach, which is an easy walk. There’s lots of hotels, but I can recommend this one. The room was very spacious with a huge bathroom. The room opened onto a small patio and there was good airflow. I found the hotel staff to be very helpful. There’s a lovely pool area. It’s a very relaxing resort.”
