Widely regarded as Thailand’s leisure, shopping and entertainment capital; Patong truly is a holiday destination that has something for every type of traveller.

DusitD2 Phuket Resort

As we embarked on yet another glorious Thai trip, our Travel Team welcomed the news that we would be staying at one of our all-time favourite accommodation establishments – the dusitD2 Phuket Resort (affectionately known as the ‘Hard Rock Resort’). Showcasing modern style without losing that authentic tropical Thai ambiance, dusitD2 perfectly reflects Patong’s carefree beach vibe and lively party atmosphere.

Upon entering the resort we were warmly welcomed by the waiting staff and greeted like long lost family members, while the stylish lobby lounge area gave us a preview of the sumptuous modern designs that pepper the property’s interiors.

The Room

Our Premier Room was a plush haven far removed from the hustle and bustle of Patong’s streets. Featuring spacious interiors adorned with a vibrant tropical colour scheme and a collection of convenient amenities, the room served as the perfect retreat after long days and even longer nights embracing the tourist delights of this beachside paradise.

A 32-inch flat-screen TV with DVD player and cable channels, cosy sitting area, handy work desk and a coffeemaker nicely rounded out the in-room amenities, while the ensuite bathroom was suitably well-appointed. The room offered plenty of space and comfort – we particularly loved the relaxed lounge area and large glass doors that opened onto an elevated open-air balcony.

Decadent Dining

Inevitably, our mornings usually began with a hearty breakfast at dusitD2’s in-house restaurant known simply as Flavours. The daily buffet was a hit with our travelling troupe, featuring a delicious selection of Asian and Western delicacies. We tucked into the platters of fresh fruit with gusto – a refreshing start to the day after nights spent over-indulging.

The distinguished dining venue dishes up an appetising array of traditional Thai cuisine and international favourites that tempt and tantalise the tastebuds.

We also indulged in a decadent Thai market-style dinner at Flavours, where dishes were created right before our eyes at live cooking stations. The chicken and pork satays went down a treat, while the generous servings of stir-fried rice noodles with tamarind sauce and prawns were utterly satisfying.

Perhaps our favourite dish of the entire trip, the char-grilled seafood skewers were perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth.

Facilities

The dusitD2 Phuket Resort also houses a fantastic range of engaging on-site facilities; from casual bars and relaxing swimming pools, to fully-equipped fitness and business centres.

Without a doubt, the supremely cool DBar Lounge became one of our favourite chill-out spots. A venue to see and be seen at, the bar is a great place to unwind with a few technicolour cocktails.

The rooftop pool and bar was another popular hangout locale with our group and countless other resort guests. Pulling up a sun-lounger while casting our eyes across the panoramic coastal and mountain views beneath the setting sun comprise the basic ingredients for a late afternoon and evening well spent.

The additional third-floor swimming pool exudes a more family-friendly vibe, while the fun-filled Kids World Activity Centre is sure to provide endless entertainment for younger guests.

 Patong Playground

The resort is also just moments from the famous, buzzing Bangla Road. It’s the centre of Patong and Phuket’s action where shopping, dining and bars abound. At night, the street comes alive and many travellers returning after a year away are surprised to find their favourite bar or restaurant from the previous holiday gone with another sprung up in its place. It’s this ever-changing, vibrant environment that keeps things more than interesting.

DusitD2 Phuket Resort

There are plenty of laid-back Aussie bars, cheeky Go-Go Bars, live music and cabaret venues, fruity cocktail spots and much more to explore once the sun goes down.

For something a little more sedate, the retail temptations of Patong’s huge Jungceylon shopping centre are sure to delight keen shoppers. A multitude of stores sell a vast range of products including designer clothes, sunglasses, cosmetics and perfumes, shoes, DVDs, computer games, tons of mobile phones and accessories, electrical goods and pretty much any other retail item you can imagine.

DusitD2 Phuket Resort

Phuket is known for its incredible Thai street food, so no visit to Patong is complete without tasting the fruits of the local street vendors’ labour. Along with the famous Pad Thai, you can try sizzling satay skewers, grilled fresh fish, authentic curry dishes, desserts like creamy custard and sticky rice and lots more. Aside from the street hawker’s fare, you can also find exotic fresh fruit and veggies like limes, tamarind, papaya, pomelos, green mangoes and ready-made salads in this Thai food paradise.

DusitD2 Phuket Resort

The resort is also just a short walk away from the white sands of popular Patong Beach. Once you’re there, you can lounge on a deckchair under a beach umbrella, take a dip in the cool cobalt waters, or try water-sports like jet-skiing or parasailing. It really is the best of both worlds having a beautiful sandy beach so close to the urban centre of Patong.

With all this and so much more, it’s easy to see why the dusitD2 Phuket Resort is one of our Travel Team’s favourite Thai getaway spots!

“Stayed couple days at the Dusit in Patong, part of an extended Phuket trip. A hip hotel with a fantastic location and outstanding service. I was particularly impressed with the service provided from the front desk, very pleasant and highly hospitable. We loved our premier room, spacious, colourful and very comfortable. I also ate at the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and accommodating, they all helped to make our stay an enjoyable one.”

“Hip Hotel in Patong”

5 out of 5 stars – Reviewed 11 August 2014

“This hotel is for sure a different style hotel for Patong. It has a hip and young atmosphere without coming across as cheap. The location is fantastic. It connects to Hard Rock Cafe and is about 3 min walk to Patong beach. It is also a mere 5 minutes to Jungceylon shopping mall. We travelled with a small child and found the kids club in the hotel to be excellent both in size and variety. The rooftop pool is amazing and commands excellent views. We had dinner in the in-house restaurant Flavours shortly after their new menu was launched and what we ordered was of excellent quality. My wife chose Thai food and I chose Western food. We both truly enjoyed every dish. The overall service attitude in the entire hotel is wonderful. The staff is very caring and helpful and also very friendly to small children which makes the entire stay so much more relaxing for the parents. I can highly recommend the DusitD2 Phuket Resort and would come again without hesitation.”
