AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort – Arrival

After we arrived at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport we were greeted by AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort’s friendly chauffeur who whisked us off to the resort. After a scenic 40-minute drive through the picturesque Sepang countryside, we arrived at our destination.

Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort Villas

Situated along Malaysia’s Sepang coastline, the resort has 392 luxuriously appointed sea villas, forming the shape of a palm tree. Each villa sits directly above the ocean, allowing guests to enjoy serene sunsets from their own private balcony. The whole concept of the resort is simply breathtaking.

On arrival, we were greeted by the resort’s friendly staff and quickly checked in to our room.

Overwater Family Villas

The villa we stayed in for most of the trip was very spacious with a fantastic view as it sits on the ocean.

Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort

While we’ve been in hundreds of hotels, this was our first over-water experience and it really is spectacular. You can hear the sound of waves directly beneath the floor and see the sunrise and sunset above the ocean from your private balcony. Magnificent!

The suites are a spacious 82 square metres (about the size of a two bedroom apartment) and are beautifully decorated in traditional Malaysian style, boasting amenities including lovely fittings. After each day, you can wind down in front of the flat screen TV or enjoy a drink on the balcony.

The Family Villa is ideal if travelling with groups of friends or children as there’s certainly enough space for everyone. Or, for couples, the villa offers the chance to spread out in a romantic setting.

The Swimming Pool

Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort

The resort has a spectacular infinity swimming pool in the centre of the palm formation, and we spent a couple of hours each day enjoying the sunshine and sipping cocktails here! When you’re in the pool looking out, you literally feel like you’re swimming in the expanses of the Strait of Malacca.

AVANI Spa

The Spa at AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort enjoys a lovely view of the horizon. With the wide variety of treatments on offer and the relaxing  island vibe, it’s a must visit. We tried the traditional full body massage, a head and shoulder massage and the signature massage. Each treatment was conducted by a professional massage therapist who regularly asked if we were comfortable, and whether the pressure was okay.

Food & Drink

AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort prides itself on offering a large selection of cuisine at reasonable prices (despite being a five-star resort). The atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are reasonable and certainly justified.

Breakfast

The breakfast buffet is served at Bila-Bila restaurant. There were lots of choices on offer – the cooked food would change daily from a selection of sausages, hash browns, eggs and lots more (as well as lots of Malay options for variety). Of course, the continental options are plentiful with cereals, lots of breads and even locally made jams. It was hard to not indulge too much on the sweet selection, and there were plenty of fruits for those trying to stay healthy!

Three-Course Dinner At Stimbot

The environment in Stimbot is relaxed with the restaurant being open space with just a roof (which gives it a lovely tropical feel).  Stimbot’s signature is the ‘Seafood Steamboat,’ a table full of food, a personal banquet for two. The Steamboat consists of huge selection of prawns, oysters and clams as well as salads, tofu skin and dim sum.

Yum Cha At Hai Sang Lou

We loved the Hai Sang Lou restaurant, which also maintained a relaxed feel while still serving delicious cuisine and fine table settings.

The staff were absolutely brilliant, taking care of everything we needed and were very attentive (with a lovely smile on their faces!). Hai Sang Lou serves a huge range of ‘yum cha’ style dishes like sweet buns, wontons, dumplings, tofu skin wraps as well as delicious pockets of light tempura style fruit.

Activities

There is plenty to do around the Resort with lots to explore. The resort has bikes, canoes, sailboats and access to pretty much any other water activity you could think of! Be sure to ask to go “cart surfing” which is like surfing on land in a cart. There is also a great gym at the resort, which guests can use for free.

There are lots of beach activities to join in – the staff regularly organises volleyball and beach soccer.

The resort also has its own Adventure Park that’s perfect for those aged 12 and up. Entry is very reasonable (only around AUD$15 per person) and there’s lots of super fun stuff to keep everyone entertained, including go-karting, archery, paintball and even driving all terrain vehicles.

TripAdvisor Reviews

‘A Wonderful 50th Wedding Anniversary Holiday’

Five out of five stars – Reviewed 17 December 2014

“This was possibly the friendliest Resort we have ever stayed at. The staff were all brilliant
and greeted us with big smiles. The Restaurants in this Hotel were all top class and the food was delicious. The girls in the Avani Spa were lovely and certainly relaxed us with our massages. The suite we occupied was wonderful. We had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, two balconies over the water and a living area, all kept spotlessly clean. We enjoyed riding the bicycles around the complex (I am 70 and I hadn’t done that since I was in High School). The daily Coach available for trips into Kuala Lumpur was air-conditioned and clean and the mini bus rides into the nearby Village each morning at 10 a.m. gave us the chance to appreciate local charm and to do some souvenir shopping. We would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to all our friends.”

‘Wonderful Hotel with Great Service!’

Five out of five stars – Reviewed 14 December 2014

“Great hotel and a wonderful staff that gave us very good service. The villas are amazing and great food at their restaurants. Would definitely recommend to stay at this hotel. We also did the Mangrove tour which was very interesting with a great tour guide.”

‘Beautiful sunsets’

Five out of five stars – Reviewed 7 December 2014

“Wonderful resort with incredible sunsets and attentive staff. We spent 7 days at Avani Resort, along with a couple of our friends. The food was of a very high quality – on two nights we requested a ‘dinner on the balcony’ dinner – one was a western 3-course menu and the other Asian, and we did not expect such a wonderful atmosphere, and such a high standard of food. We took the Avani free bus service in and out of Kuala Lumpur for the day. Our villa was large and the room was well cleaned every day. We booked the holiday package which included massages, breakfast every morning, 5 lunch or dinner vouchers and airport pickup, through Luxury Escapes in Australia, and it was everything and more than we had hoped for.”
